FPS drops ONLY when a lot of folks active.

Hey guys,

I'm having a huge public problem.

When I'm on a server that has a lot of people playing on it.

I lose my stable 125 fps, to 40 fps!!!! That's a huge drop!!!

I have no idea how to fix it.

I know my pc, should be able to hold a steady 100 fps. But somehow it won't work.

When a server has a lot off explosions, and people are shooting at the same time: I lose fps massively!

My question:

Can you help me?

Here is all my info, that you will need.

Yes, firewall is off. Yes, I use low video settings.

And my antivirus: AVG

And I play et from my external harddisc.

Yeah i have been having the same problem, getting new pc now though. Could it be some sort of driver causing the issue?

i never had any problem with et on my older pc but the last 6month may rate as been all over the place

Well,

I know my drivers should be capable for stable 100 fps (and normally 125).

Butthere is a relation between my fps and amount of active players/explosions on a server.

I just wish how to solve that.

should be yes just wonder if there was something in a update that caused the problem. When did it start for you?

My best guess: your gfx card driver has no way (or a very slow 1) to render the explosions/bullets. If it can't render them, the fast GPU can't be used and the slower CPU has to be used. Solution is to disable all explosions, bullet impact marks, etc. If you didn't have this problem before, it could be a bug in an update of your gfx driver.

rofl, so Glenn is facing the same problem I was facing 3months ago. Sadly enough I don't know how I fixed this (cause my drops where till 19fps :S :S )

but after the repair of it everything was a lot better.

Now I have the same as Glenn but btween 65-125fps on busy servers. Mostly in main battlefields (goldrush, fueldump, oasis, whole minas).

Would be awesome for someone to find a solution for this

ATI driver?

Can you roll back the display driver to an earlier version dated before you had the issue? Display drivers are optimised for the most recent graphics and could now be causing less performance with older technology.

1) It's always have been like this on this pc.

2) Just lately it's starts to annoy me, when I'm used to etproing 100-125 fps.

3) Like I said, Harald. I already have lowered everything fro increasing fps.

Marks are off, gibs (the bodies) are off, explosions are off,...

Edit: and since lately: Fps drops have been dropping to hard: 30-40 sometimes.

That's nuts... I aim at head, and no hs

= annoying.

Is the laptop loosing fps when it heats up? what other programs are running in the back ground when you are running et? you tried to stop all non essential system and programs from running whilst gaming? are you running any desktop gadgets to show cpu/memory/gpu usage whilst gaming?

It sounds to me like some graphics glitch, but hard to say. Make sure you have hardware accelerated drivers.

On a side note you don't really need anything more than 60fps when you're running in 60hz vsync.

Run ET, open Task Manager - Processes - Right click on ET.exe - Set Affinity and choose 1 core ("All cores" helped for someone dunno why) and click ok. Another way to set it (maybe easier) is found at http://www.splashdam...g-ET-on-X-cores

I know all of those programs, and what they do.

I can tell you that just 21% off my cpu is being used right before playing et.

(I even used Game Booster 3, which shut downs unessential .exe)

Tried that already, and it doesn't work.

BUT it will give you a 10 fps boost. Of course this is an average, based on what I've seen playing on one core, or 8.

Nevertheless, it won't fix my non-stable fps.

btw: fps isn't even stable on 60. (unless on -15players-servers)

Doing the same for a few days now.

I've been testing cvars which I never have heard off.

Looking at config they all work.

So far non is REALLY helping.

Well, I got a similar problem, but I know what causes the problem. My driver has difficulties rendering fog. On the etpub server r_wolffog is forced to 0, so it's no issue there, but for example on the silent server I get terrible fps. Your driver probably has difficulties rendering some graphics that are shown around players, or the players themselves (good fps with low amount of players, since cpu can tak over render calculations, but not for high amount of players since cpu is a lot slower).

Only solution is to change vid drivers or get a new gfx card.

2) My processor as you should have seen, should handle it.

My cpu never never has gone above 60% usage.

But I guess somewhere you are correct.

I've been asking people's vid card for weeks now.

What I've noticed that the ones with gfx card, are ALL able to get a stable 125fps on +30 servers.

So probably you're right.
