hi 

 

I got a suggestion for maps, because lately the same maps are played over and over and over again.

Is it possible to maybe ban a map after we played it for like  5 or more maps so we do not play it again every map or so, which is mostly so with goldrush..

 

Also I don't get why mortar is blocked on sp_deli, there are alot of ways for mortar to be useful in it.

 

topic off question maybe; but alot of nades (with riflenade) dissapear after u shoot with them, mostly its when u hit like a stairs or something higher up, the nade dissapears, seen some people complain about it aswel.

I dont think there is currently a way to disable Maps for voting which have been played recently.

I guess the only way to make this kind of possible to make the Map Poll bigger, which can cause instability.

I might be wrong but thats my current state of Information.

 

The dissappearing Nades are a ongoing Bug on ETL which will hopefully be fixed soon.

Could you increase minmapage some more?

Ive been playing pretty much every Day and i only see the same 10-12 Maps.

The are serveral Maps that have been last played over 100 or 200 Maps ago...and that only because i vote them at night when im alone on the Server.

IIrc the Map Pool was at 30 Maps right?

So only a third of the Maps get played.

I am not sure this will help with map being played? it would help if its only you on the server but the reason maps don't get played is because people don't vote for them and if we increase it you probably play them even less as the normal maps will appear more often.

If this is what every want then we are happy to do.

Well, i just checked on SL.

There are 30 Maps on the Server.

the Top 14 Maps have 72% playtime....which obviously means the other 16 only 28%.

Why would we play the normal Maps more often?

Arent they affected by MinMapAge?

BTW this came up as i talked with a few Members on the Server just now.

Thats pretty much the long story short. Weve tried different maps, different variations of maps but people seems to still come back to same maps. Goldrush, supply ..  To get some new maps is very fresh feeling but then usually the chat is full of complains how bad the map is and lets have something better.

Well for me (and quite a few others) its the opposite.
Leaving the Server because its way to repetitive.

I know it has always been impossible to make it right for everyone, most ppl complain about Maps because they dont know them.

If they are "forced" to play other Maps from time to time they will get to know them...and stop complaining.

Ive ran several Servers in the past (always Campaign) and put unpopular Maps in every Campaign...in the beginning often ppl left but some did stay, learn the Map and teach others.

That way i always got more Maps played.

set g_minMapAge "12" is what it is atm. Would people want say ... 15? It would mean you wouldn't see a map again until 14 other maps have been played. You may never see your favourite map on the night if you're unlucky, but there'll be more of a chance to play the lesser played maps. It feels like it's a bit much to me, idk.

We could try it and if people complained then we could put it back, the last thing we want to do is empty the server. We can make a poll but not sure how much response we would actually get as there isn't that many people visiting the forums.

Personally I like the same small maps. They make this game interesting for me to play as you can see the enemy within 5 seconds from spawning and there's no useless running time to the objective. What I don't like are maps where the ending objective is in a small area behind chokepoints and far away from the offensive spawnpoints. Think Venice or Snatch.

Usually the maps that are not played often are fit for bigger matches - which translates to the fact that they're huge. And huge means boring as every time you die it's another 20sec run until you see even see the enemy. And 40sec-1 minute until you can reach the actual objective should you get that far. The repetitive running from spawn to the action after every death is the main reason I don't like the bigger maps, even if the map objective is good.

Another reason why I generally don't enjoy playing big/new maps is that there is always that learning curve present where the first 20 times a map is played it's one-sided on either side. And that depends on which team has the 3 guys who know the objective while the rest don't. And as the learning curve progresses the defence always gets better and then that basically means 20 minutes wasted on a map where allies get literally nowhere. We saw this exact thing happen with that map with tank escort/barrel of oil at the end (can't remember the name) when that map was on the server.

I hope you don't force the new maps too much.

I think theres these two sides of same coin. People who want same maps will leave if you force new maps - dingenskirchen was a good example (@Sebast1an explained very well what happens with new map first days or even a week). But we see less disconnects with goldrush or bremen for example. And the maps that gets played .. are usually the ones people voted the most at the moment. I dont know if making rotations between map beeing played and appearing again would make much difference - it basically is what it is. Its the DNA of said public server. We have also campaign server with other set rotation of maps in campaign mode and Matu had good suggestion also. 

 

We need to meet in the middle of both sides and for a person who almost hate goldrush and some regular maps these days, I have accepted this current solution because server peaks on full most of nights and it seems that people really like the way things are right now.

I think the campaign server pretty much began its journey as separate place because people wanted something different but sadly it seems that many of them didnt stay there and returned to main server and we have learned that lesson before with etpro server so Im pretty much against any bigger change just because we have a lot of regular folk who just like things how they are.

Regarding the Campaign Server...i dont play there at all because its all the same Maps...suppy, adler, frostbite, delivery...ect.

Might be a good concept...if it would differ from the Main Server other than no option to vote what is the next (always played) Map...

Im often to be found on Beginners or Small Maps as of now for said Reasons.

We will see what Time brings and if it changes a lil once new Maps are added.
